Mr. Evans goes to Washington?!

Gregory D. Evans has tweeted that he will be "testifying .. to congress on Cyber Security and China relations.
"Testifying next week to congress on Cyber Security and China relations. Go ahead a hate on this!"

If true, this is likely part of an ongoing committee that is examining "Cyber Threats and Ongoing Efforts to Protect the Nation" (see the recent press releases here and here). House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), Chairman Mike Rogers and Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger headed the committee and heard testimony from several people. The schedule for testimony and hearings is not posted more than a few days in advance, so it is difficult to confirm if his alleged testimony is for this, a different committee, different sub-committee or just his way of saying he will be in a room with a congressperson.

If you feel that Gregory Evans testifying to Congress on computer security is inappropriate given his criminal past, we encourage you to contact the appropriate parties and let them know of Evans' past. Details can be found at http://attrition.org/errata/charlatan/gregory_evans/. Please keep correspondence brief, polite and to the point. Congresspeople are busy and receive a lot of correspondance every day.

There are two staffers who are handling the "China and Cyber Security" issue for the committee:

We need your help: upcoming conferences

We need your help! We have no idea if Greg really has 25 speaking engagements over the next two months, but we do know he has some (because we've found them, see here and here). Use your Google-fu to help us out! Please post in the comments below or tag your tweets with #LIGATTSPEAK. Thanks!

We need your help: Savanna conference

We need your help in identifying this conference that Greg Evans claimed to have attended this past weekend. Given Greg's location in Atlanta, combined with his penchant for misspelling, I suspect that the location is probably Savannah, Georgia. Any information you can provide us is useful in verifying his statements. Additionally, we can make contact with the conference organizers for the next time around. Please post in the comments below or tag your tweets with #LIGATTSPEAK. Thanks!

Status: Entry created 8/31/2011. As of August 31, Greg Evans is still on the conference agenda.

Update (from jericho at attrition.org): Evans is a sponsor, and as such gets one speaking slot. A source close to the conference has told attrition.org that upon removing Evans, he resorted to legal threats and they added him back.

ISSA and ISACA are two orgs that are involved and giving out VIP passes for entry. If one of those orgs complained, it may have more weight. In addition, people mailing to complain should indicate if the presence of Evans affected their choice to attend or skip it.

We have sent them mail encouraging them to get payment for the sponsorship up front, before he speaks.
